Pancake Lab in science

Famous Artist Recreation- Art 3 students put a lot of time and creativity into learning about and recreating works made by famous artists throughout history. They studied the artist style and worked independently or in small groups to study their art style, learn about their life, and then remake their art. So proud of these incredible artists!

Blacklight Painting- All 2D Art students spent the week in painting in the dark! Art 1 students learned about Dia de los Muertos last week and painting skeleton portraits using colors and symbols that represent themselves and their ancestors. Art 2 students used different colors to draw each other in poses and gestures focusing on value with the different colors. Finally, Art 3 students practiced making their first mural by making an ofrenda that students could hang their completed skeletons on.

Sage & Scribe & "6 7" Fun!! We had a day where students got to take turns being the teacher or being the scribe - the one writing down what the "teacher" said. It was great hearing them instruct each other and we loved hearing words we use. We also celebrated Halloween with as much 6 & 7 math as we could come up with!

Health classes have been learning about the harmful effects of sugar on our health. Students created a Sugar Shocker Board to draw attention to the amount of added sugar in our processed foods. The American Heart Association recommends men not to exceed 9 tsps. of sugar per day and females and children under 18 not to exceed 6 tsps. per day. Students measured out the number of teaspoons in some of their favorite products and displayed the information in the library.

Students spent over a week trying to build a successful rubber-band powered glider that could fly 50ft. As we finished up the unit on Heavier-than-Air travel. In the unit, they were learning about the forces and breakthroughs humankind had to make for this kind of flight to be possible. This is what flight day looked like as they gathered their data.
