Magnus Chase

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard

Review by Tristan Reed

Magnus Chase has been living on the streets for quite some time. Ever since that one horrible night. No he must not think of it. The night his mother died, to the wolves. This book is definitely a little different. This book was by the same author that made the Percy Jackson series. So if you liked Percy Jackson, then I bet you will like this book. The author is Rick Riordan, in my opinion the best author because all of his books are amazing.

This book is a mixture of mythology and Action and Adventure. It is also fiction. That is why it is set in the Nine Worlds. If that doesn't make sense, which it probably won’t, read the book. Then it will make sense. This book consists of many different environments which are described quite uniquely, which is one of the many things that I enjoyed. There was so much detail, that in some parts, there were a few things that were a little weird to me.

The main characters consist of Magnus, Sam, Blitzen, Hearth. They are all unique in what role they play. It is interesting that inside of this book you can explore each one’s family life. Since they all are different, they act different, and you can easily see this in the book. They each like different things and dislike certain things. They also each have their own challenges that they each have to overcome. And at least for me, I kind of get attached to them. It is really well written, so maybe that's the reason. (Or maybe it's just me that feels bad for Hearth.)

I also like the encounters that they have. It makes the reader feel connected to them. There are many moments in this book that are so easy to relate to. Granted, there are many that are also completely unrelatable, like, for say, turning to stone because you stood inside the sun too long. But that also brings me to another thing I like about this book. That is the fantasy. Many do not like fantasy,  but I love the way the Rick Riordan writes it in such a way that it just feels right. Like peanut butter and jelly, it just works really well! So if you like fantasy, read this exciting book!
